| Big-Hearted members of the Lancashire Entertainers Golf Society raised £1000 for the Wythenshawe Hospital's Emma-Jones White Fund. The money, proceeds from a tournament at Blackley Golf Club will help buy a vital postoxymeter for the intensive care unit. There was a great turnout of teams for the Celeb
Am-Am at Flixton Golf Club, which saw a total in excess of £2100 raised
for The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Sports stars Gary Owen and David Sadler joined forces with stars from the Lancashire Entertainers Golf Society to give the amateur teams a day to remember with a full night of top-class cabaret following the golf. A cheque was presented to Kath Smith BEM, the tireless worker for the charity, which will use the money raised for the Research Equipment Fund. Over the past ten years Kath has helped to raise over £750,000 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, which has all been spent on essential equipment. |

GOLFERS "Putt" their best efforts
into raising money for the Gem appeal, which aims to establish the world's
first research laboratory for the study of generic diseases. And they went a "fairway" too, collecting £900 in in 1997 and £800 in 1998 in events held at Northenden Golf Club organised by LEGS (Lancashire Entertainers Golf Society.) On hand to receive the cheque were Karen Hoather, of Upper Passmonds Grove, Cutgate, who two sons, Mike and Simon have Hunter's Syndrome. It's established the laboratory, to be located at Willink Centre, Pendlebury, will cost about £500,000. Gem has already raised more than £200,000 towards it. |
